Hyderabad: Recently, a soda vendor was caught filling the can with dirty water near the Secretariat which went viral on social media and ever since there has been a lot of talk about the dangers of consuming soft drinks from roadside vendors.

"It is better to have coconut water or carry a butter milk to avoid dehydration," said Dr YVL Narsimham, a private physician. He further added, "We are treating five to six new patients per day for diseases like typhoid, viral hepatitis A, cholera, diarrhea, amoebiasis, giardiasis which are caused by such soft drinks."

"These should be avoided by people or else they have to move around hospitals. What is surprising is even educated consume soft drinks from the roadside," says Dr A Dinesh Kumar.

"We are aware that it's not such a healthy drink but we can't do anything as the density of these carts is more and whenever we feel thirsty, we can register one vehicle and move towards it," said Viswanadh Kumar, B Tech student near the cart. "I never used to drink them before get tempted while travelling as the heat gets to me," said Jayaram, a job aspirant near the cart.
