Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister and Power Minister Bhatti Vikramarka countered the criticism being levelled by former minister Harish Rao against the state’s power sector and the Yadadri Thermal Power Plant.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, Bhatti said that those who were in power for 10 years should explain what they had done instead of hiding their mistakes and making irresponsible statements merely because they are now in the opposition. He alleged that the previous government proceeded with the construction of the Yadadri Power Plant without finalising the required coal allocation and supply linkages in advance.

He said that apart from land, DPR and technical aspects, coal linkage is one of the most crucial requirements for a thermal power plant. There should have been a clear plan regarding where the required coal would come from, how much would be supplied, its quality and the capacity of the supply system. However, the Yadadri plant was constructed without adequate clarity on these issues.

He questioned how Singareni could supply 14 million tonnes of coal annually to Yadadri under such circumstances.Bhatti also alleged that the previous government had ignored the Naini coal block for 10 years.A separate coal allocation is required specifically for Yadadri, Bhatti said. He added that efforts were being made to secure the allocation by writing to Coal India, the committee of the Union government and Union Minister G Kishan Reddy.

Bhatti alleged that the previous rulers had been negligent in securing new coal blocks to meet the requirements of Yadadri and increase coal production in the state.

A separate coal allocation is required specifically for Yadadri, Bhatti said. He added that efforts were being made to secure the allocation by writing to Coal India, the committee of the Union government and Union Minister G Kishan Reddy.

Bhatti also explained the financial burden being imposed on consumers by the Yadadri Power Plant. He said the cost of electricity generated from Yadadri is Rs 6.66 per unit.

In comparison, electricity from the Kakatiya Thermal Power Plant costs Rs 4.17 per unit, while electricity from the Bhadradri Thermal Power Plant costs approximately Rs 4.60 to Rs 5.10 per unit, he saidannounced that documentary evidence would be presented in response to those spreading false propaganda about the Yadadri Power Plant.
