Sangareddy: Financialhardships stood in the way of her burning desire to study. With her family’s 2.5 acres of land caught in a dispute, Bhavani, a native of Kappad village in Raikode mandal in the district, faced a dilemma: should she continue her education or give it up? However, determined to resolve the issue and pursue her studies, she moved forward, and art became an integral part of her journey.
Bhavani studied at a Model School. She is currently pursuing the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) course and has already completed the first level. However, due to unfavorable family financial circumstances, she has been away from her studies and staying in her native village for the past six months.
Bhavani’s family owns 2.5 acres of land. In a family with three daughters, this land is the primary resource for two major needs: the marriage of her elder sister (who has completed her B.Tech) and the continuation of Bhavani’s own education. However, the land had been mired in a dispute for the past 12 years, making it impossible to sell. With the issue pending before revenue officials, the family was facing financial hardship.
Despite her father suggesting, she quit her studies.
Given the financial situation, Bhavani’s father suggested she stop her education. However, she was unwilling to give up her studies midway. She believed that if the land dispute were resolved, the proceeds could fund the continuation of her education. Hoping to find a solution to her problem, she decided to meet Jagga Reddy.
She wanted to present a gift when she met Jagga Reddy. Having been interested in art since childhood, Bhavani decided to learn a unique art form and create a gift herself. To this end, she paid a fee online and learned the technique of ‘thread art’ (creating images using threads).
After ten days of hard work...
After mastering thread art, she spent ten days of dedicated effort creating a portrait of Jagga Reddy. The artwork was ready, but the question remained: how could she get it to him?
Eventually, through acquaintances from her village, she contacted Sangareddy constituency Congress leaders Cheryala Anjaneyulu, Chimnapur Prakash, and Pastor Moses. With their assistance, she and her parents got the opportunity to meet Jagga Reddy on Saturday. She then presented the thread art portrait - which she had painstakingly created over ten days - to him.
Jagga Reddy Learns the Story Behind the Artwork
Jagga Reddy accepted the artwork presented by Bhavani and spoke to her affectionately, inquiring about how she learned the craft, her current studies, and other details. Subsequently, Bhavani explained her family’s situation.
She informed him that the two-and-a-half acres of land owned by her parents was under dispute and the matter was pending with revenue officials. She explained to Jagga Reddy that if the land issue were resolved, she could resume her education and achieve her goals. Upon learning of her situation, Jagga Reddy promised to speak with the District Collector and work towards resolving the land dispute. He encouraged Bhavani to continue her education without interruption. Bhavani, who had arrived simply to present a piece of art, returned with the assurance that a path forward for her life had been found.
