Hyderabad: The 12th edition of award-winning initiative kicks off this year Ganesh Chaturthi with the announcement of Ramky BIG Green Ganesha.

In order to make a conscious effort of keeping the environment clean, this year's BIG Green Ganesha idol will be made using old newspapers, donated by citizens and celebrities of Hyderabad, in a massive collection drive that is starting today for 10 days.

With each passing year, the eco-friendly brainchild of the network has always reinforced the absolute necessity for environmental conservation and sustainability.

Gaining immense popularity since the time it laid its foundation in 2008, the campaign this year will be spearheaded who is sure to entice listeners across the 10-day long festivities. Bapiraju Kanduri, Cluster Head – Telangana and Andhra Pradesh at Big FM, said, "We will have a canter going around town from 21st till 30th August.

Along with that, we will also keep paper collection boxes in Next Galleria Malls and Happi Mobile Stores. Where each individual can come and donate newspaper for the Green Ganesh idol will be getting a Ranky big Green Hero certificate along with many other gifts and vouchers."

"The collected newspaper will be used to make a Green Ganesha idol of six feet tall. The idol will be made using paper mache, clay, and bamboo which will be followed by a 7-day mall event where Ramky Big Green Ganesha Idol will be installed.

It will be immersed in an artificial pond at Tank Bund. The motive of this year's newspaper collection drive is to create an awareness of using eco-friendly Ganesha and immerse them in artificial ponds." The Idol will be unveiled on 2nd September and will have celebs from Tollywood and TV industry visiting the mall for daily evening aarti. Daily competitions will be held at the mall to engage mall visitors and listeners where they can win exciting gifts from 92.7 BIG FM, he added.
