Honorary Doctorate conferred on filmmaker, poet and actor B Narsing Rao

Hyderabad: Governor and Chancellor of Dr BR Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU), Shiv Pratap Shukla, stressed the need for higher educational institutions to focus on skill development and digital education while addressing the university’s 27th Convocation on Wednesday.
Governor Shukla conferred an Honorary Doctorate on noted filmmaker, poet and actor B. Narsing Rao and presented M.Phil and Ph.D. degrees, Gold Medals and Book Prizes to students.
The Governor appreciated BRAOU’s services to students from rural, remote and disadvantaged communities. He said the university had provided educational opportunities to more than 25 lakh students. He also appreciated Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ghanta Chakrapani for introducing free education under the “Samatha” scheme for economically weaker sections, disadvantaged communities and tribal groups. Congratulating B Narsing Rao, Shukla praised his contribution to taking Telangana’s culture, people and social realities to national and international audiences. Addressing graduates, the Governor urged them to set goals, work with discipline, continue learning and serve society. He called upon educated youth to contribute to “Viksit Bharat–2047.”
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ghanta Chakrapani said BRAOU was combining digital technology with social objectives to promote inclusive, quality and employment-oriented education. Former NAAC Director and former BRAOU Vice-Chancellor Prof. VS Prasad, the chief guest, highlighted the role of open universities in democratising higher education and bringing universities to learners’ doorsteps.
