Dengue and malaria cases on the rise
There is an increase of dengue and malaria cases in the city. The highest incidence of both viral fevers has been reported from Masab Tank area.
Hyderabad: There is an increase of dengue and malaria cases in the city. The highest incidence of both viral fevers has been reported from Masab Tank area. The number of dengue cases from January 1 to Aug 15 is more than that of the cases of malaria in the city. A total of 287 dengue cases have been reported this year.
Speaking to the Hans India, Dr J Venkati, District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO), Hyderabad, said, "Compared to last year, there is an increase in the number of cases of malaria and dengue this year. We use the anti-viral measures to contain the rise of these diseases. Our officers visit those areas which are in high contact with these diseases and find out the reasons for the increase of these diseases."
Stagnant water is one of the causes of malaria and dengue. Even a little amount of stagnant water can lead to the growth of these diseases. A little amount of water left stagnating outside or inside the house can lead to the propagation for mosquitoes which transmit these diseases. The temperature of the area can also lead to these diseases.
The chances of these diseases are higher when the temperature of an area is 30 or near to 30 degree C, said the DMHO. "We also have been conducting different awareness programmes in the areas to make people aware about the increase and causes of these diseases. A number of free health camps have also been provided to find out whether the locals of the areas were in contact of these diseases," added Venkati.
