Khairatabad Birthday Bumps: After the recent incident where a student died after his pancreas was damaged due to birthday bumps, netizens are treading a cautious path. Ravish, a 17-year-old student and resident of Khairatabad, says, "My parents warned my friends not to resort to birthday bumps and, personally, even I am not for it. I find it quite amusing."

Similarly, Meghna Raut, a student of Journalism and resident of Jubilee Hills, says, "When we were in school, we never had this custom. It is a recent fad. In the excitement, friends go overboard and one may get injured and at times it may become fatal as was the case recently."

Usually "the Bumps" are administered only to children, in part because as people grow up they become too heavy for the process. Sometimes bumps are also referred to as kicks where the person celebrating their birthday is held by their arms and legs and their friends kick them

Many celebrities and social media activists like Shruti Desai and Virendra Sehwag have posted about this on their social media. 'This is so sad. A student who was given birthday bumps passed away. This is an assault and no way to celebrate. Please be responsible and no birthday bumps, it isn't fun for anyone' Sehwag posted on Twitter.

Almost seven such deaths have already been reported in recent times. Previously IIM Mumbai had banned birthday bumps on their campus after the death of a student was reported. This viral video has created a huge outrage in people. Shikhar Dhavan and leg spinner Pragnay Ojha expressed grief and requested people not to attempt it.
