Internal roads lie in pathetic state

Highlights

The main problem in this ward is overflowing of sewage water due to which mosquito menace has increased to alarming proportions. People are forced to keep windows and doors closed

Kukatpally Housing Board Colony (KPHB), ward no114, is a fast-growing residential locality in the twin cities. Though it is a young, planned and developing suburb but still the ward lacks basic civic amenities that include pathetic condition of internal roads, no desilting of drains, improper disposal of waste, open defecation, illegal constructions and pending road expansion works.

With a total population of 60,000 and 52094 voters, the ward under Moosapet Circle covers major areas like Gopal Nagar, Venkata Ramana Colony, APHB Colony, Vasanth Nagar and Izzathnagar. This unreserved division has been represented by corporator Mandadi Srinivasa Rao after he won the 2016 elections on the TDP ticket with 13,953 votes against the nearest rival Asusumalli Venkateswarlu from (TRS) who had received 11,218 votes. The major contesting candidates in the ensuing GHMC elections are the incumbent Srinivasa Rao from TRS, Uppala Padma Chowdary, (TDP), Gandham Yesu Raju (INC) and Sarivigari Preetham Kumar Reddy (BJP).

One of the primary issues in this ward is the sewage water overflowing on internal lanes because of the poor construction of sewage chambers and frequent blockage in the drain lines and adding to it is rampant illegal constructions. Locals allege that the GHMC officials and the local corporator have failed to take any initiative to resolve the issue. Besides this, the authorities concerned have not taken any initiative towards covering the open nala near Gopal Nagar.

Issues expressed by the locals, "The main problem in this ward is overflowing sewage water due to which mosquito menace has increased to alarming proportions, most of us are forced to keep our windows and doors closed. Also many times we have requested the GHMC officials to clear the stagnant drain water and to come up with a permanent solution but everything has fallen on deaf ears," said Ramesh Rao, a resident of KPHB.

"The other major issues are illegal constructions, open defecation and sewage overflow. Several times we have approached the officials concerned about the issue and they have been giving only false promises," said Sunil Reddy, a resident of Gopal Nagar.
