Hyderabad: TPCC president B Mahesh Kumar Goud on Friday stated that the removal of Konda Surekha from the Telangana Cabinet is painful, while defending the Congress High Command’s decision as a disciplinary measure.
Speaking to the media in Delhi, Goud said Surekha should have condemned the remarks made by her daughter, Susmitha. He said the All India Congress Committee (AICC) viewed Surekha’s failure to condemn the comments seriously and advised her to change her manner of speaking.
Goud explained that the action against Surekha was taken based on a report submitted by the party’s Disciplinary Committee. He made it clear that disciplinary action was inevitable against anyone who crossed the party line.
“There are several platforms within the party to express views, grievances and differences,” Goud said, stressing that leaders should use these internal forums rather than taking their issues directly to the media.
He said bypassing the party’s internal mechanisms and making public statements amounted to a serious violation of party discipline. According to Goud, the High Command was particularly concerned that Surekha had not condemned the harsh remarks made by her daughter.
Goud also refuted allegations that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had attempted to blackmail or exert pressure on anyone for political gain. He asserted that the Chief Minister had no need to resort to such tactics.
Though Konda Surekha made it clear that she will continue in the Congress party and will not tender resignation to MLA post, Goud said the party wanted Konda Surekha to remain in the Congress despite her removal from the Cabinet. He maintained that the disciplinary action was intended to uphold party loyalty and discipline.
The TPCC chief further reiterated that the Congress government would continue to give priority to the interests and welfare of the Backward Classes.
Goud warned that the party leadership would not tolerate actions or statements that could harm the interests of the Congress, asserting that maintaining discipline was essential for the party’s functioning.
