Hyderabad: The Telangana government has announced a reduction in the fares of combined travel passes for Hyderabad Metro Rail and Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) services.

Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar announced the revision with the price of the daily fare being reduced from Rs 400 to Rs 275 and the monthly combined which costs Rs 8,500, has been reduced to Rs 4,000 with new fares to come into effect from November 8.

The fare revision comes a month after the launch of the integrated Metro-RTC travel pass, which was introduced to provide seamless connectivity. On Friday, Ponnam Prabhakar said that the decision was taken under the directive of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, with the objective of reducing the financial burden on commuters and making public transport more affordable and accessible.

As part of the revision, the price of the daily combined travel pass has been reduced from Rs 400 to Rs 275. Of this amount, Rs 200 will be allocated for Metro travel and Rs 75 for RTC bus services. The daily pass will allow commuters to make up to four single journeys per day.

Similarly, the monthly combined travel pass, which currently costs Rs 8,500, has been reduced to Rs 4,000. Under the revised pricing, Rs 3,000 will be allocated for Metro travel and Rs 1,000 for RTC bus services.

The monthly pass will allow commuters up to 50 Metro round trips during the month, while there will be no travel restrictions on RTC bus services.

Ponnam Prabhakar said, “The revised fares would result in significant savings for regular commuters. Monthly pass holders will save Rs 4,500, while daily pass users will benefit from a reduction of Rs 125.”

The revised fares will come into effect from November 8. The government has instructed the concerned organisations to make the necessary arrangements for implementing the new pricing structure.

The minister said the decision was taken as a Diwali gift to the people of Telangana, keeping public welfare and the financial interests of commuters at the forefront.

He said, “The government’s priority was to ease the burden of travel expenses on citizens and encourage greater use of public transportation.

This reduction is expected to provide considerable relief to daily commuters who depend on Metro Rail and RTC bus services for their everyday travel.”
