Police sternly warns over misuse of licence plates

In view of the increase in the cases filed in Madhapur and Kukatpally divisions against the number plate violations, ACP held the meeting of number plate designers to explain them about the guidelines to be followed during the designing of the plates.
In Madhapur division alone, thousands of cases related to number plate violations have been filed since last four years. As many as 5,007 cases were filed against number plate violations in the year 2016; 5,512 cases in 2017; 11,002 in 2018 and 3,676, so far, in 2019.
During the meeting, ACP Chandrashekhar urged the number plate designers to prepare number plates as mentioned in the MV act after verifying the number from the RC book of the respective vehicle. Irrespective of the value and type of the vehicle, the number plate should have only number of the vehicle. If anything other than the number is written on the plate on the request of vehicle owners, cases will be filed against both the vehicle owners and the number plate designers, he warned.
Chandrashekhar asked the designers not to include even the designations of the vehicle owners, however rich or powerful they may be. He advised them to use radium stickers on the number plates to avoid accidents during nights. He urged the designers to prepare the number plate only after verifying the number from the RC book and take xerox copies of the documents, along with the details of the vehicle owners.
If anti-social elements are caught using fake number plates, cases will also be filed against the number plate designer who prepared it, he said. The ACP said that a special drive would be conducted shortly in all the traffic police station limits in Madhapur division. As part of the drive, the number plate designers who prepared number plates that are fancy will be identified and cases will be filed against them, he warned.
