SCR operates 350 special trains to tackle festive rush
Hyderabad: As the festive fervour of Diwali and Chhath Puja grips the nation, South Central Railway (SCR) has stepped up arrangements by operating approximately 350 special trains during November to clear the holiday rush. Connecting major destinations such as Patna, Danapur and Barauni for Chhath Puja, along with key hometowns for Diwali, these special services are being operated in addition to the zone’s 350 daily regular train services.
With thousands of passengers thronging major stations, railway authorities have introduced stringent crowd-control measures, designated holding areas and structured queue systems managed by Railway Protection Force personnel to prevent platform congestion and ensure orderly boarding.
Passengers have expressed mixed but largely positive views on the upgraded infrastructure. A passenger travelling with his family to Patna for Chhath Puja said Secunderabad station resembled a modern airport terminal due to its ongoing makeover. Another traveller appreciated the redeveloped station’s modern appearance. However, a woman passenger stressed the need for better sanitation and regular maintenance of public restrooms.
SCR has arranged additional seating, drinking water booths, medical aid stations and automated ticket vending machines to reduce queues. Additional help desks and mobile announcements have also been deployed to guide passengers during peak hours. Station managers have been instructed to ensure adequate water supply, functional lighting and prompt waste clearance.
Security personnel are on high alert, monitoring baggage through scanning equipment. Passengers have been advised to reach stations well in advance, use digital ticketing applications such as UTS and follow station guidelines.
SCR has warned that carrying firecrackers or other explosive and inflammable materials in trains, luggage or parcels is a punishable offence under Section 164 of the Railways Act, 1989, attracting imprisonment of up to three years, a fine or both.
The railway zone has urged passengers to cooperate with security personnel and follow safety protocols for a safe and comfortable festive journey.
