The South Central Railway (SCR) received four National Awards from Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for the year 2019 for adopting various energy conservation measures.

Secunderabad: The South Central Railway (SCR) received four National Awards from Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for the year 2019 for adopting various energy conservation measures.

For the first time, the SCR participated in this competition in the buildings category and adjudged with four awards by CII such as Excellent Energy Efficient award for Rail Nilayam (Administrative building of Zonal Headquarters) and Secunderabad Railway station, in addition Energy Efficiency award for Lekha Bhavan (Administrative building Zonal finance and accounts) and Sanchalan Bhavan (Administrative building of Secunderabad Division). These awards were presented on September 18, 2019 during the CII annual summit conducted at Hyderabad.

The various energy conservation measures include implementation of online solar energy monitoring, use of energy efficient LED lights, BLDC fans, invertor AC units in place of old AC units and use of occupancy/motion sensors.

All these efforts have resulted in achieving the best Energy Performance Index (EPI), which is key parameter for judging the awards. The EPI recorded areLekha Bhavan is 12.71 kWh/sqm, Secunderabad Railway station is 25.92 kWh/sqm, Sanchalan Bhavan is 34.96 kWh/sqm and Rail Nilayam is 40.42 kWh/sqmas against National bench mark of 86 kWh/sqm
