Hyderabad: In a move aimed at preventing passenger accidents and ensuring safer journeys, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation issued strict instructions to ensure that buses fitted with passenger doors operate exclusively with doors properly closed.

In an official circular, the TGSRTC Mechanical Engineering Department directed all Deputy Regional Managers to guarantee the proper functioning and mandatory closure of passenger doors in buses operating under their respective jurisdictions. The decision follows a tragic incident in which a woman conductor died during treatment after a female passenger pushed her from a moving bus.

According to TGSRTC, the corporation operates approximately 9,900 buses, including hired and electric vehicles, for rural and urban public services. While City Ordinary, Metro Express, and certain Metro Deluxe buses do not feature passenger doors, other services, including Palle Velugu, Express, Deluxe, Super Luxury, Rajadhani, and Lahari Sleeper Coaches, come fully equipped with them.

The department observed that several buses fitted with doors were being operated without closing them, creating the risk of untoward incidents and endangering overall passenger safety.

Taking serious note of the safety hazard, TGSRTC Chief Mechanical Engineer instructed officials to ensure that all passenger doors remain in proper working condition and that buses operate only after closing doors without fail.

Deputy Regional Managers have been directed to submit comprehensive compliance reports to the Mechanical Engineering Department by November 7, 2026. The binding instructions have been circulated to all Regional Managers, Divisional Managers, and depot garage in-charges for immediate implementation and necessary enforcement action across the state.
