Hyderabad: A dedicated membership-based facility for gig and platform workers, Upzy House, was inaugurated at High-Tension Line Road in Kondapur on Friday, offering delivery riders and other platform workers access to quality meals, clean restrooms, medical consultations and a safe place to rest.
Labour Minister Gaddam Vivekanand inaugurated the centre, which will remain open seven days a week from 6 am to 11 pm. Representatives of the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union also attended the launch, bringing government officials and worker representatives together on the same platform.
The facility follows a six-month survey conducted by the Upzy team among 4,163 gig workers in Kondapur and surrounding dark-store clusters. According to the survey, 68% of respondents spend more than 10 hours a day on the road, while 90% said they rely on roadside locations or inconvenient public toilets during work. Only 5% said their platform aggregators provide adequate washroom access.
Upzy House is open to workers associated with multiple platforms, including Swiggy, Zomato, Zepto, Blinkit, Amazon, Flipkart, BigBasket, JioMart, Rapido and Urban Company. Members can use air-conditioned seating, hygienic washrooms, and mobile charging facilities and receive breakfast, lunch and dinner. Free doctor consultations are available Monday to Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm. Table tennis, carrom and chess facilities are also provided. Membership costs Rs 99 a week or Rs 349 a month.
Furthermore, a dedicated private lounge has also been created for women gig workers, addressing concerns around access to clean restrooms and safe waiting spaces.
Upzy Co-founder and CEO Aditya Vuchi said the company views riders as its primary customers and plans to establish more centres across Hyderabad. COO Niranjan Seelam said workers primarily sought basic amenities such as clean toilets, seating and hygienic food.
Union leader Shaik Salauddin called for government collaboration and suggested using Gig Worker Welfare Board cess funds for maintenance of public worker facilities.
Minister Vivekanand highlighted the Telangana Platform-Based Gig Workers (Registration, Social Security and Welfare) Act, 2026, introduced in the Assembly, and said facilities supporting workers’ dignity were valuable.
