Khammam: The office bearers and members of Electrical Contractors Association in Khammam launched an indefinite strike on Tuesday protesting against the alleged negligent attitude of officials towards the contractors. Association's district president Ch Nagaraju and secretary T Srinivas, speaking on the occasion, alleged that some of the engineers and office staff in TSNPDCL have been troubling the contractors.

They complained that though the State government has taken up 'Power Week' programme in a prestigious manner, some engineers with their lack of concern were diluting the programme and its objectives. The Association leaders maintained that the CMD of NPDCL has directed the officials concerned to ensure supply of equipment required for Power Week from the district store, but the engineers in question were procuring them from outside contractors.

Nagaraju alleged that few officials expecting commissions were delaying clearing of bills of works done. The bills have been kept pending for the six to seven months. They demanded immediate payment of bills besides regular meetings of contractors with the engineers concerned. Senior contractors Meda Nageswar Rao, M Sambashiva Reddy, K Madhu, Avula Mallaiah and others were present.
