TTD’s Lord Venkateswara temple construction begins in Khammam
Khammam: The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) performed a groundbreaking ceremony for the Lord Venkateswara Swamy temple at Khammam on Monday, with rituals conducted in the presence of spiritual and political leaders.
Tridandi Chinna Jeeyar Swamy performed the bhoomi puja amid Vedic chants and traditional music in the presence of TTD Chairman BR Naidu and Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao. The dignitaries later unveiled the foundation plaque marking the commencement of the temple project. The Telangana government has allotted 20.04 cents of land in Survey No. 408/2 in Darusulapuram revenue village under Khammam Urban mandal for the construction of the temple, according to a TTD press release.
The TTD has sanctioned Rs 3.40 crore for the construction of a compound wall around the allotted site. The main temple complex will include the principal shrine of Lord Venkateswara, subsidiary shrines, a rajagopuram, a traditional kitchen and a surrounding enclosure.
“The project aims to provide devotees in Khammam and neighbouring areas easier access to the darshan of Lord Venkateswara and promote Sanatana Dharma,” the release said.
Addressing the gathering, Chinna Jeeyar Swamy blessed the people of Khammam and expressed hope that the city would emerge as a spiritual centre connecting the two Telugu-speaking states. He appealed to devotees to participate in the temple construction and prayed for the prosperity and well-being of the people.
Meanwhile, Naidu said the organisation was committed to constructing temples dedicated to Lord Venkateswara in different parts of the country to promote Hindu traditions and preserve Sanatana Dharma. He emphasised the importance of local devotees’ participation in the project.
Tummala thanked Chief Ministers of Telugu States A Revanth Reddy and N Chandrababu Naidu for their cooperation in facilitating the temple project. He expressed hope that the proposed shrine would enhance Khammam’s spiritual and cultural significance.
TTD Joint Executive Officer A Sarath, temple Deputy Executive Officer Sivaprasad, engineering officials, priests and other staff members attended the ceremony.
