Man succumbs to stab injuries sustained during Ganesh immersion

Kurnool: A man who sustained serious stab injuries during a Vinayaka idol immersion procession in Owk town on September 16 succumbed to his wounds while undergoing treatment at the Government General Hospital in Kurnool on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as 42-year-old Uyyalawada Sudhakar of Kota Veedhi in Owk.

According to police, Sudhakar was allegedly attacked with a knife by P. Venkatesh Goud during the festive procession, suffering a deep abdominal wound.

Locals initially shifted him to the Owk Government Hospital, after which family members transferred him to Kurnool GGH for advanced medical care.

Despite prolonged treatment, he passed away.

Although police had registered a case under Section 307 of the IPC against Venkatesh Goud following the assault, the failure of the Owk police to apprehend the accused a week after the incident has drawn sharp criticism.

Relatives of the deceased staged protests and questioned the delay in executing the arrest, demanding immediate and stringent legal action against the perpetrator. With the victim’s death, law enforcement authorities are expected to upgrade the charges.
