Special court acquits 20 Devanakonda residents after prosecution fails to prove charges

Devanakonda residents get relief from SC/ST Atrocities case filed against them in 2022
Kurnool: The special SC/ST court dismissed an SC/ST Atrocities case registered against 20 residents of Devanakonda after the charges against them were not proved, senior advocate and state convener of Lawyers and Public Front Madduru Subhash Chandra Bose said on Wednesday. He said the court pronounced its verdict after completion of the trial, bringing relief to the accused who had been facing the case for nearly four years.
Speaking to The Hans India, Subhash Chandra Bose said Devanakonda police had registered a case in 2022 against Bobba Mallikarjuna and 19 others under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The accused, belonging to weaker sections, had been regularly attending court hearings and faced considerable difficulties during the prolonged legal proceedings. He said he appeared as counsel for the accused and argued the case before the court.
The senior advocate said the district judge of the special SC/ST court dismissed the case after the prosecution failed to establish the charges against the accused. He urged people belonging to SC, ST, BC and minority communities to maintain harmony and avoid unnecessary disputes and litigation. If anyone was subjected to a false or illegal case, they should not be intimidated but approach senior police officials or courts for appropriate relief, he advised.
Subhash Chandra Bose alleged that there were instances where political influence was being used to foist cases under the SC/ST Act against rivals for political vendetta, leading to allegations of misuse of the legislation. However, he said such allegations should be examined by competent authorities and courts based on the facts of each case.
