Surprise checks expose blunders at Kurnool Anganwadis

Kurnool: Women and Child Welfare Department Project Director P Vijaya conducted surprise inspections at several Anganwadi centres in Kurnool on Wednesday, directing officials to take immediate disciplinary action over multiple administrative and operational lapses.

Visiting facilities on SN Street, Erraburuzu-1, and Erraburuzu-2, Vijaya reviewed student attendance, pre-school activities, nutritional food distribution, sanitation, and infrastructure maintenance. At the SN Street centre, noting only two children present out of the registered strength, she instructed staff to coordinate closely with parents to improve attendance.

At Erraburuzu-1, the Project Director found toilets unused, the Anganwadi teacher absent without prior permission, and meals restricted to plain rice without dal.

Furthermore, the mandatory menu and center board were missing. At Erraburuzu-2, general maintenance was unsatisfactory, staff were not wearing uniforms, weighing scales were neglected, and instructions to relocate the center had been ignored.

Expressing serious displeasure, Vijaya directed CDPOs and supervisors to initiate action against negligent staff as per rules. She mandated strict compliance with government-prescribed menus, full nutritional support, proper hygiene, and quality pre-school education across all centers.
