Kurnool: The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) announced that it will officially launch the year-long centenary celebrations of legendary leader and Ram Janmabhoomi movement spearhead Ashok Singhal with a grand “Samajika Samarasta” (social harmony) conference in Kurnool on October 4.
Addressing a media conference in Kurnool on Wednesday, VHP South Andhra Pradesh president Yerram Vishnuvardhan Reddy stated that a series of religious, cultural, and service-oriented programmes are planned across the region to mark Singhal’s 100th birth anniversary and propagate his ideals among the younger generation.
Tracing his background, leaders noted that Singhal, born in Agra on September 27, 1926, graduated in metallurgical engineering from Banaras Hindu University in 1950 and trained in Hindustani classical music under Pandit Omkarnath Thakur.
Inspired by RSS leader Balasaheb Deoras, he served as a full-time pracharak and played a pivotal role in mobilizing Hindu religious leaders through the Dharma Sansad. VHP regional joint secretary Pranesh highlighted Singhal’s deep-rooted connection with Kurnool, recalling his initial visit in 1983 during the Ekatmata Yagna Rath Yatra, followed by subsequent visits in 1995 and 2003.
VHP South Andhra Pradesh media convenor Maligi Bhanu Prakash appealed to devotees, spiritual organizations, and the general public to turn out in large numbers for the October 4 inaugural event and ensure its grand success. Several senior VHP leaders were present at the press meet.
