Women sweep top positions in Nalgonda Red Cross poll
Nalgonda: Women have scripted a new chapter in the history of the Indian Red Cross Society in Nalgonda, emerging as the top three vote-getters in the election to the 15-member committee.
Dr Hemalatha with 573 votes, Akavaram Latha Kumari with 549 votes, and Jyothi Reddy with 536 votes secured the top three positions, respectively pushing male candidates, including former chairman Amarender Reddy (530 votes).
Dr Hemalatha was subsequently elected the society’s first woman chairman, marking a historic milestone in its journey. Her elevation to the top post is being seen as a major breakthrough for women in an organisation traditionally associated with male leadership.
The key office-bearers were elected unanimously after no rival nominations were filed within the 10-minute window allotted for submitting nominations. Dr Hemalatha was chosen as chairman, while Bhimanapalli Srikanth was elected vice-chairman, Kumbham Jyothi Reddy as treasurer, and Manchukonda Chinna Bikshamaiah as executive member.
Members hope that the leadership will introduce fresh initiatives to improve the society’s functioning and development.
