Nellore: Polling for ZPTC and MPTC elections was conducted peacefully across the district on Thursday. No untoward incidents have been reported so far.

About 58 per cent of voters, against the total 13.15 lakh voters, had exercised their franchise by around 3.30 pm on Thursday, with polling still under progress across the district. Despite incessant rains in several places in the district, people were seen standing in queues to cast their vote.

Even old aged and disable people exercised their vote. At some places, security personals carried disabled people to the polling centers with help of locals.

District Election Officer and Collector Himanshu Shukla said that they are expecting the voting will cross 65 per cent in Nellore, Atmakur and Gudur subdivisions. On Thursday, he inspected polling station at Zilla Parishad High School in Podalakur.

He issued a few instructions to the officials and discussed security arrangements with police and directed them to remain alert to ensure peaceful polling.

Speaking to the media at Venkatachalam, Collector Shukla said that polling agents of major political parties were present at all polling stations. He clarified that no untoward incidents had been reported anywhere in the district and that the administration had not received any adverse reports so far.
