Ghaziabad: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath accused the Congress on Thursday of obstructing the country’s development and the Samajwadi Party of acting as its “pichhlaggu” (follower), saying the BJP had launched its nationwide ‘Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao’ foot march to expose their “conspiracies”.
Addressing a gathering ahead of the march in Ghaziabad, with BJP UP in-charge Vinod Tawde on stage, Adityanath said the country is on a development journey under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which Congress and its allies dislike.
“The BJP has decided to expose the Congress, which is creating obstacles in the path of a developed India, and the Samajwadi Party (SP), which has become its ‘pichhlaggu’ and is creating hurdles in this journey,” he said.
The chief minister said the BJP and its allies were organising the march across the country to bring before the public what he described as attempts by the Congress and its supporting parties to create disorder.
“Today’s marches are being successfully held at 100 places across the country,” he said, adding that the initiative followed a nationwide call by BJP national president Nitin Nabin. Taking a swipe at the Congress over its criticism of electronic voting machines (EVMs), the Election Commission and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Adityanath said the party blamed constitutional institutions whenever it lost elections. “These are the same people who, when they win elections, have no complaints, but when they lose, blame EVMs,” he said.
Referring to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, he compared him to a student who repeatedly fails examinations but keeps finding excuses for his poor performance. “More or less, this has become the Congress’s tendency. It has lost the people’s confidence because of its corrupt conduct,” he said, alleging that the party had been involved in several scams, including the Commonwealth Games, fertiliser, 2G and coal scandals. Adityanath recalled the Emergency imposed in 1975, saying it was ironic that the Congress was now lecturing others on democracy. “This presents a highly comical situation,” he said. Targeting the SP, the chief minister alleged that its four stints in power in UP were marked by hooliganism, anarchy, curfews and riots.
