Says field teams ready to address snapped power lines, fallen poles, damaged conductors

Energy minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar
Amaravati: The state government mobilised around 6,000 experienced personnel and strengthened emergency response systems to tackle Cyclone Arnab, with energy minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar directing officials to prioritise public safety and ensure speedy restoration of electricity in affected areas.
Reviewing preparedness through a video conference with senior officials from his camp office in Amaravati on Tuesday, the minister called for round-the-clock vigilance, coordinated action and immediate implementation of precautionary measures.
“Every life is precious,” he said, directing officials to anticipate potential risks, prevent electrical accidents and respond swiftly to disruptions caused by the cyclone.
The minister said the workforce included officers and field staff experienced in cyclone-related restoration operations. Leave arrangements had been revised in areas outside the cyclone’s immediate impact to ensure adequate manpower availability. Power distribution company chairpersons and managing directors were instructed to conduct field visits and monitor the situation closely.
Directors were supervising operations in Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Kakinada and Konaseema districts. Field teams were prepared to address snapped power lines, fallen poles, damaged conductors and faults at 132-kV substations. Essential repair materials had been stocked at divisional offices and mandal headquarters to facilitate immediate restoration.
The energy department has strengthened its 1912 call centre to handle up to 30,000 calls simultaneously. Consumers can report power interruptions, fallen poles, snapped wires and other electricity-related emergencies through the helpline.
A dedicated communication group has also been established to coordinate with district collectors, Revenue Department officials and village and ward secretariat staff. Ravi Kumar said the measures were being implemented in accordance with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s directions, with emphasis on protecting lives and maintaining essential services.
