Deworming Day on Sept 25

Rajamahendravaram: District Collector Kirti Chekuri said the district would administer albendazole tablets to all children aged 1 to 19 years on September 25 as part of the National Deworming Programme, aimed at preventing worm infections and anaemia among children.

The Collector unveiled a wall poster related to the programme at the PGRS Hall on Monday. She said taking albendazole once every six months would help prevent health problems caused by intestinal worms and also reduce anaemia among children. She said arrangements had been made to conduct the programme with the coordination of the district administration, Medical and Health Department, Education Department, ICDS and Women and Child Welfare Department.

District Medical and Health Officer Dr P Komala said the deworming programme would be conducted at 3,400 Anganwadi centres and government and private schools and colleges across the district. As many as 4,46,865 children in the one-to-19 age group have been identified as beneficiaries. District Programme Officer of Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram Dr Harischandra Prasad said albendazole tablets would be given to children studying in schools and colleges at their respective institutions.

Children who are not enrolled in educational institutions would be provided the tablets at the Anganwadi centres in their respective areas.

Children who miss the dose on September 25 would be given the tablet on the mop-up day on October 5, he said. He appealed to parents to send their children to schools and colleges and ensure their participation in the programme. District officials of the Medical and Health, Education, ICDS and Women and Child Welfare departments attended the programme.
