Door-to-door recheck of voters begins today
Tirupati: Booth-level officers will visit every house from Saturday (October 10) to recheck the details of 90,922 voters, who were not found at their registered addresses, said Tirupati Assembly Constituency Electoral Registration Officer and Commissioner M Jayakrishna.
In a statement on Friday Jayakrishna said the voters were marked as unavailable during a door-to-door survey conducted from June 15 to July 24 as part of Special Intensive Revision. The reasons included death, permanent migration, registration in more than one place and being untraceable. The officers will conduct the recheck over the next four to five days.
He said after the survey, draft electoral rolls were published on July 31, with 2,04,406 voters. During notice stage, another 5,637 people were found, as of October 6, to be ineligible for inclusion in final roll. The final electoral rolls will be published on October 16.
Jayakrishna said the Election Commission has ordered a special drive to verify voters marked as absent, shifted, dead or otherwise ineligible, register new voters, and help eligible people whose names may have been left out. Booth-level officers will carry the list of 90,922 voters and check their current status.
If an eligible voter’s name was removed by mistake, the officer will help the voter submit Form 6.
After verification, the name can be added through the continuous updation process.
Eligible people whose names are not in the final roll, as well as those who become eligible on a later qualifying date, can apply for enrolment using Form 6. The qualifying dates are January 1, April 1, July 1 and October 1, he added.
