Man climbs stationary train, threatens suicide at Renigunta station

Tirupati: A dramatic rescue unfolded at Renigunta railway station on Friday when RPF personnel used a safety net to rescue a 32-year-old man, who had climbed onto a stationary train and moved towards high-tension wires.

The man, identified as Prakash Roy from Assam, reportedly got down from Thiruvananthapuram-New Delhi Kerala Express and started shouting on the platform. He later climbed the foot overbridge and moved onto a stationary train. Roy ran across the coaches and allegedly threatened to end his life. He also demanded that a three-star officer be brought to the spot and shouted that he should be produced before a court within 48 hours if he was arrested.

The situation became tense when he moved towards the overhead electrical wires. Railway officials immediately switched off the power supply to the high-tension lines as a precautionary measure. Two persons then climbed onto the coach and tried to persuade Roy to come down. However, he reportedly refused to cooperate and resisted their attempts to restrain him. He allegedly tried to attack them during the struggle.

Roy subsequently lost his balance and came close to falling from the coach. Alert RPF personnel quickly used a safety net to prevent him from falling and brought him down safely. Railway police took Roy into custody after the rescue.

Renigunta RPF Inspector Venkateswarlu said that Roy appeared to be in an unstable mental condition and was shifted to the psychiatric ward at SVR Ruia Government General Hospital in Tirupati.
