Tirupati: District Educational Officer KVN Kumar said the efforts being made by the United Teachers Federation (UTF) to strengthen government schools and protect the education system are commendable.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the district-level Best Teacher Awards function organised by the United Teachers Federation (UTF), Tirupati district, in Tirupati on Sunday on the occasion of International Teachers’ Day.
Kumar said UTF had taken the initiative to increase student enrolment in government schools by creating awareness among parents in villages since February. As part of its campaign, the organisation launched a special programme titled ‘Vooru Badini Kapadukundam’ (Let us protect our village school) and worked to encourage parents to admit their children in government schools.
He said the enrolment drive taken up by the Education Department in Tirupati district, along with the special campaign conducted by UTF, had helped increase the number of students joining government schools.
Puttur Deputy Educational Officer T Maheswara Rao, UTF state secretary SS Naidu, Tirupati Urban MEOs Balaji and Bhaskar Naik, UTF district president Rajasekhar and district general secretary K Muthyala Reddy also spoke at the programme.
On the occasion, 100 teachers who had shown outstanding performance in the district were honoured by the DEO.
