Cancellation of MBBS admissions demanded

Vijayawada: Liberation Congress Party founder-president and former IAS officer Vijay Kumar has demanded the immediate cancellation of the second round of MBBS admissions conducted by Dr NTR University of Health Sciences, alleging that the process violated reservation norms. Addressing a press conference in Vijayawada on Wednesday, Vijay Kumar said several irregularities had occurred in the second round of admissions released by the university on September 21.

He said Government Order No 102 allowed candidates to exercise options for any number of colleges in their preferred order in every round of counselling. However, he alleged that a BC-B category candidate with a NEET rank of 31,325, who had a chance of securing a seat in Guntur Medical College under the open category/MRC, was unable to do so because of the manner in which the options were handled.

Vijay Kumar alleged that around 70 candidates belonging to different reserved categories had suffered similar losses. Medicos Parents Association State president Dr Ala Venkateswarlu questioned the authority of the government to restrict a candidate’s right to select any number of colleges in their preferred order.
