Students urged to cultivate interest in research

Vijayawada: Students should cultivate interest, dedication, hard work, creativity and imagination to contribute to scientific research and technological advancement, Prof CK Jayasankar, Associate Dean, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amaravati Campus, said on Wednesday.

Prof. Jayasankar was delivering a guest lecture on “Recent Advances in Laser Research” organised by the Department of Physics, Andhra Loyola College (ALC), in association with the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT), AP Chapter – RC11.

The lecture was dedicated to the memory of Late Prof S V J Lakshman, former Vice-Chancellor of Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati, and Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur, on the eve of his 93rd birth anniversary.

In an engaging lecture, Prof Jayasankar explained the nature of light, basic laser principles and the differences between ordinary light and laser light.

He highlighted the distinctive properties of laser light, including directionality, coherence, monochromaticity and high intensity, and explained their relevance to technologies used in everyday life.

Prof Jayasankar also explained how optical fibres have transformed telephone and internet communication and are increasingly being used in medical and sensing applications.

Vice-Principal Fr Arul Jyothi felicitated Prof. Jayasankar.
