Vijayawada: Vijayawada will host the 51st Sub-Junior National Basketball Championship from September 27 to October 4, Andhra Pradesh State Sports Authority (SAAP) Vice-Chairman and Managing Director S Bharani said here on Monday.
Bharani held a coordination meeting with officials of various departments at the Sports Bhavan in Indira Gandhi Stadium here to review arrangements for the national-level tournament, being organised by the Basketball Federation of India in association with SAAP.
She directed officials to make comprehensive arrangements and ensure better accommodation, medical and security facilities for players, coaches and officials. The matches will be conducted at several venues, including the RTC Colony–Maris Stella College Indoor Stadium, Patamata Chennupati Ramakotaiah Indoor Stadium and the Koneru Basavaiah Chowdary Zilla Parishad High School premises at Patamata.
Player safety should be given top priority, Bharani said, directing officials to provide two ambulances and medical teams at every venue. X-ray facilities, dentists and orthopaedic specialists should also be made available, while leading hospitals should be linked for emergency treatment.
She also directed officials to schedule school-ground matches without affecting academic activities.
Matches should preferably be held between 7 am and 10 am and during evening hours, with announcements kept at low volume.
