VMC steps up measures for safe water supply

Vijayawada: VijayawadaMunicipal Corporation (VMC) Commissioner HM Dhyanachandra has directed officials to take stringent measures to ensure that only safe and clean drinking water is supplied to residents across the city. He conducted an extensive field inspection on Tuesday, reviewing sanitation, drinking water supply, mosquito-control measures and other civic amenities in several areas. He visited Vemula Shyamaladevi Road, Bhagat Singh Road, Satyanarayanapuram, Ajit Singh Nagar and Sundaraiah Nagar Katta and issued several instructions to officials.
At the VR Aqua RO water plant on Bhagat Singh Road in Satyanarayanapuram, Dhyanachandra inspected the facilities and reviewed the quality of drinking water being supplied to residents. He directed officials to regularly inspect water plants in every division and ensure that laboratory tests were conducted at prescribed intervals. He stressed the need to maintain strict quality standards and ensure uninterrupted supply of purified and hygienic drinking water without any lapses.
At Sundaraiah Nagar Katta, the Commissioner inspected sanitation arrangements and directed officials to remove accumulated waste regularly. He also instructed them to prevent wastage of drinking water and ensure the removal of stagnant water from vacant sites in coordination with property owners. He ordered officials to intensify anti-malaria activities immediately after every spell of rain to prevent mosquito breeding and reduce the risk of vector-borne diseases. The Commissioner later inspected the Anna Canteen in Ajith Singh Nagar and reviewed food quality, drinking and utility water supply and sanitation arrangements.
He directed officials to monitor the quality of food served at Anna Canteens on daily basis and immediately address any deficiencies. Zonal Commissioner K Prabhudas, Executive Engineer Gopalakrishna Murthy, Assistant Medical Health Officer Dr P Anupurna and other staff participated in the inspection.
