GVMC pays special focus on Ganesh immersion sites

Visakhapatnam: GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg directed public health officials to expedite sanitation work at Ganesh immersion sites in beach areas and ensure prompt disposal of idol remnants, including immersed dried flowers, puja materials and other stuff. Carrying out a surprise inspection at the Ganesh immersion site arranged near the Naval Coastal Battery on Beach Road, the Commissioner reviewed the immersion process and the sanitation activities being carried out at the site. He verified the attendance and deployment of sanitation workers and enquired about the availability of vehicles, machinery and other necessary equipment required for the immersion exercise.

Instructing the officials to segregate and remove the remnants of immersed idols immediately after the completion of the immersion process, the Commissioner directed that sanitation works should continue uninterrupted during the night. He further instructed the officials to ensure that all accumulated waste should be completely removed in two to three hours during the early morning and that the immersion site must be kept clean by daybreak.

He directed that the attendance of sanitation workers should be recorded through facial recognition devices. The officials concerned should personally monitor the attendance and performance of the workers and take action, as per rules, against those found absent from duty. Adequate sanitation personnel, vehicles, machinery and equipment should be kept ready in advance to ensure that night sanitation operations continue without any interruption.

Electrical engineering officials were directed to regularly inspect the functioning of the lights installed at the immersion sites and ensure proper lighting until the completion of the immersion process.

Stressing the importance of safety arrangements, Ketan Garg instructed the officials to deploy expert swimmers at the designated locations to prevent any untoward incidents. He also directed that food, drinking water and other necessary facilities be provided to them.

The Commissioner instructed officials of all concerned departments to work in close coordination to ensure that the Ganesh immersion programme is conducted hassle-free. He directed them to continuously monitor sanitation, lighting and public safety arrangements at the immersion sites and take measures to prevent any lapses.

GVMC in-charge chief medical officer of Health Krishnam Raju, deputy executive engineer of the electrical department, sanitary inspector, sanitation personnel and other staff were present.
