Tirupati: After failing to win the confidence of voters, a YSRCP candidate in Palamaner has turned to them once again, this time seeking return of the money he distributed during election campaign.
K Reddy Prasad, who contested from Ward 32 of Palamaner Municipality, has appealed to voters, who accepted Rs 1,000 from him but did not vote in his favour, to return the amount. He said he had borrowed Rs 10 lakh at an interest rate of Rs 10 for every Rs 100 to meet his election expenses and distributed Rs 1,000 to each voter during campaign.
Prasad lost the contest to Jana Sena Party candidate Poola Shetty by a narrow margin. In a video message released after results, he congratulated the winner but expressed disappointment over voters allegedly accepting money without supporting him at polling booth.
Questioning the conduct of such voters, Prasad urged those, who had taken money from him but voted for other candidates, to return the cash. He also warned that he would visit their houses and stay there until they repaid the amount.
Explaining his decision to seek money back, Prasad said he had promised to establish a water plant in the ward to address drinking water needs of residents. He maintained that the recovered money would be used to fulfil the commitment and provide drinking water facilities to the local population. He further questioned why voters accepted money from candidates during elections but failed to support them through their votes.
Meanwhile, Chittoor district YSRCP president N Venkate Gowda suspended Prasad Reddy from the party for allegedly engaging in anti-party activities.
