Visakhapatnam: Amid uncertainty over seat-sharing arrangements among the alliance parties, the nomination process for the elections of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) 2026 will begin on October 16.

With no consensus yet reached on ward allocation among the alliance partners, the nomination process is expected to gain momentum once the parties finalise their respective candidates. Independent candidates are likely to file a large number of nominations on the day one of the nomiation, while the final two days of the nomination period would witness a flurry of activity.

Political observers anticipate that aspirants who fail to secure party tickets may also enter the electoral fray by filing nominations without the party’s official B-form. If party leaders fail to convince such aspirants to withdraw their nominations before the deadline, they are likely to emerge as rebel candidates, potentially complicating the electoral calculations of the alliance parties.

Meanwhile, candidates are making arrangements to complete the nomination process in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Election Commission.

District Collector M Abhishikth Kishore announced that nominations will be accepted from October 16 to 18, between 11 am and 3 pm each day. Scrutiny of nomination papers will begin at 11 am on October 19, while candidates can withdraw their nominations until 3 pm on October 21.

Polling will be held from 7 am to 5 pm on October 28, and the counting of votes is scheduled to start at 8 am on October 30.

To facilitate the filing of nominations for all 120 wards under the GVMC, ward-wise Returning Officers have been appointed and designated nomination centres established across 10 zones.

Nominations for wards 1 to 5 will be accepted at the Bheemili Zonal Office, while candidates contesting from wards 6 to 12 have to submit their papers at the Madhurawada Zonal Office. For wards 12 to 29, the designated centre is the East Zone Office in Asilmetta.

Candidates contesting from wards 30 to 45 have to file their nominations at the Zonal Office near Venkateswara Theatre in Suryabagh. Those contesting from wards 46 to 65 should approach the North Zone Office located at Madhavadhara VUDA Layout. For wards 66 to 82, nominations will be received at the West Zone Office near N A D Kotha Road junction in Gowri Nagar.

The Gajuwaka Zonal Office in Srinagar will receive nominations for wards 83 to 101, while candidates from wards 102 to 106 submit their nominations at the Aganampudi Zonal Office. The Anakapalli Zonal Office near the four-road junction will serve as the nomination centre for wards 107 to 112. Candidates contesting from wards 113 to 120 must file their nominations at the Pendurthi Zonal Office on Vepagunta Main Road.

Officials have advised candidates to submit their nomination papers at the designated zonal office corresponding to their respective wards and ensure that all required documents and formalities are completed within the stipulated time.

With the nomination process set to begin, attention is now focused on the alliance parties’ seat-sharing negotiations, the selection of official candidates and the possibility of rebel candidates emerging.
