Consumer groups demand price control committees to curb essential commodity rates
Hanumakonda: Consumer Confederation of India (CCI) National Vice-President Dr Pallepadu Damodar has urged the government to establish price control committees at district and state levels, including consumer representatives, to curb rising prices of essential commodities. Speaking at a consumer conference in Ramnagar, Hanumakonda, on Thursday, he alleged that traders were creating artificial shortages citing El Nino and exploiting consumers through steep price increases, particularly during festivals. He also raised concerns over high maximum retail prices (MRPs) on cooking oil, rice, pulses and other essentials, demanding investigations and action.
CCI National General Secretary Sambaraju Chakrapani expressed concern over food adulteration and antibiotic residues, warning of potential risks to women’s health. National Secretary Mogilicharla Sudarshan announced awareness programmes across Telangana. City President G Neelima urged young women to avoid junk food.
The conference released a poster highlighting health risks.
