Banks to open on Sunday ahead of 3-day strike
New Delhi: Bank customers may get one extra day to complete urgent transactions before a three-day nationwide bank strike begins on September 28. With banks already closed on September 26 (fourth Saturday) and 27 (Sunday), the disruption could otherwise stretch to five consecutive days.
To avoid such a scenario, the government has announced that all public sector banks and regional rural banks will remain open on Sunday (September 27), the Union Finance Ministry has said in a release.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the operation of bank branches, offices, ATM-linked branches and currency chests on that day.
Customers can therefore use Sunday to complete essential banking work ahead of the proposed strike.
