The countrywide count has now mounted to 1,58,333, as per the data put out by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The death toll has now reached 4531. Once again, high COVID-19 numbers were reported in a single day, with 6,566 new cases being reported from various states across the country over the last 24 hours.
Maharashtra continues to record high numbers of coronavirus positive cases. The state's COVID-19 tally has now climbed to 56,948 with the death count nearing 1900. It has now recorded 1,897 deaths. On Wednesday, Maharashtra reported a spike of 2,190 fresh COVID-19 cases.
Mumbai continues to be the country's biggest urban hotspot, contributing the most in terms of number of cases in Maharashtra. The total number of cases in Mumbai has now reached 33,835 . The Maximum City has reported 1,097 deaths so far. On Wednesday alone, Mumbai reported 1,044 cases of coronavirus positive patients.
Tamil Nadu has recorded 18,545 confirmed COVID-19 cases with a low fatality rate of 133 deaths. 9909 patients have been discharged or have recovered in the state so far.
Delhi has also been one of the major hotspots of COVID-19 with the total count in the national capital mounting to 15,257. The national capital has recorded 303 deaths so far. The numbers in Delhi, analysts point out, are related to the high testing levels in the national capital of about 9,000 per million.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Gujarat has reached 15,195. The state has come under criticism for some quarters for not testing enough. Gujarat has reported 938 deaths so far, which is high compared to most other states.
Rajasthan has reported 7,703 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and has seen 173 deaths. Madhya Pradesh has reported 7,261 confirmed COVID-19 cases with a mortality rate of 313 deaths.
