ECI Removes SIR Declaration From Online Form 6 After Objections By Two Election Commissioners
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has removed the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) declaration from the online Form 6 application across all states, following concerns raised by two Election Commissioners.
The decision extends an earlier change under which the declaration had been separated from Form 6 in states where the SIR exercise had already been completed.
With the latest revision, the SIR declaration will no longer be included in the online Form 6 application in any state. Applicants will now have to submit the declaration separately instead of filling it out along with the application for inclusion in the electoral roll.
What is Form 6?
Form 6 is used by eligible citizens to apply for inclusion of their names in the electoral roll. It is an important part of the voter registration process, allowing individuals who are eligible to vote to seek enrolment.
The latest change means applicants will have to follow separate procedures for submitting Form 6 and the SIR declaration.
Change follows concerns raised by Election Commissioners
The decision comes after two Election Commissioners flagged concerns over linking the SIR declaration with Form 6. The Election Commission has now extended the separation of the two submissions to all states, including those where the revision exercise is still underway.
The move changes the online application process for voter enrolment during the ongoing revision exercise.
