MANGALURU: In recognition of its operational standards and safety innovations, Mangaluru International Airport bagged two top honours at the recently concluded Chapter Convention on Quality Concepts 2026, organised by the Bengaluru Chapter of the Quality Circle Forum of India (QCFI).
The airport’s technical teams received gold awards across two distinct operational categories. Team Margdeep, represented by Krishnadas M.S. and Ippsita Choudhury, took home the gold in the Allied Concept category. Their project optimised the airport's Precision Approach Lighting (PAL) Category 1 System by combining Six Sigma frameworks with Total Maintenance Control and Lean Safety Circle protocols to bolster airfield efficiency and risk mitigation.
Concurrently, Team Safe Edge, featuring Pranoy Augustin Francis and Prajeesh Prakash, secured Gold in the Allied (Kaizen) Concept category. The team introduced an artificial intelligence-driven In-Vehicle Monitoring System equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Driver Monitoring Systems (DMS) aimed at augmenting driver safety and real-time operational monitoring across airport ground operations. Airport management stated the recognitions reflect an ongoing commitment to technological integration and continuous quality improvement. (eom)
