Northern Amy commander reviews operational preparedness in south Kashmir

Srinagar: The Indian Army's Northern Army commander, Lt General Pratik Sharma, has reviewed the security situation and the operational preparedness of the troops in South Kashmir areas, the army said on Monday.

During the visit to the hinterland units in the area, Lt Gen Sharma reviewed the preparedness of the troops and took stock of the security situation in the region.

He underscored the importance of maintaining sustained alertness and strengthening synergy with all stakeholders to remain prepared to meet emerging challenges.

He also commended the troops for their professionalism, dedication and commitment towards ensuring the security of the nation.

The visit comes as part of the army’s ongoing efforts to maintain operational readiness and ensure effective coordination among security stakeholders in the region.

The Northern Command is a vital operational command of the Indian Army responsible for guarding the country's northern borders in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. It is headquartered at Udhampur in the Jammu region.

The command has three corps under its control - the XIV Corps (Fire and Fury Corps), headquartered in Leh, covering Ladakh; the XV Corps (Chinar Corps), headquartered in Srinagar, covering the Kashmir Valley; and the XVI Corps (White Knight Corps), headquartered in Nagrota, covering the Jammu region.

Besides, the I Corps (Strike Corps), headquartered in Mathura, is operationally aligned with the Western/Northern Commands.

The Northern Command handles some of the world’s most challenging terrain and active borders, including the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan and the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China, alongside intense counter-terrorism operations in the hinterland.
