New Delhi: The Union Home ministry is all set to discuss with Governor E S L Narasimhan threadbare, the cash-for-vote scam and the subsequent fall-out here on Friday only to advise him on the course of action to be adopted in the eventuality of any legal developments. Narasimhan landed here on Thursday to share the latest developments in the case.
A few days ago the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) had submitted its report on investigations in to phone tapping of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, other ministers and officials to the ACB Court dealing with the cash-for-vote case. The Governor who has been asked to update the Centre on the developments has reportedly come with the ‘latest’ amid the rumoured reports that the FSL has arrived at 'certain' conclusions.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Home Secretary L C Goyal, are expected to take a view on the prevailing situation after the discussion and also guide the Governor on the steps to be taken. The visit of the Governor comes amid the proposed transfer and appointment of Governors pending since some time. The BJP sources claim that the announcement of candidates for these positions would be made in the first week of July.
There could be a reshuffle too it is said. Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Karnataka figure in this list as of now while Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Assam, J & K, Tamil Nadu, MP could be on the list, it is being speculated. Whether the focus would be on AP/TS is not yet known as the Home ministry reportedly is happy with the performance of the present incumbent.
However, there is pressure on the Centre to recall ESL Narasimhan which does not seem to be happy at his performance. Amid these plans, whether Narasimhan would be disturbed is to be seen as he has a reputation as the most qualified to deal with the AP/TS situation.
It would also be interesting to see the moves of the Home ministry in the wake of the Telangana government's reported claims of ‘serving notices on Chandrababu Naidu’ in the cash-for-vote scam. However, it is being said that the Centre may advise the Governor to calm the tempers of the two State governments.
