Unofficial sources put it at 2 lakh acres

Adilabad: Owing to continuous rains in the district for more than one month now, standing crops, especially cotton and soya bean, were damaged in the district in large areas. According to agricultural officials, crops were damaged in 50,775 acres in 353 villages of 28 mandals in the district due to incessant rains and the total damage was estimated at Rs 16.62 cr.

But according to unconfirmed sources, crops were damaged in about 2 lakh acres in almost all the mandals of the district. The total loss due to crop damage was estimated at about Rs 200 cr.

As per official sources, standing crops in 4,995 acres in 33 villages of Jainath mandal were damaged due to rains and breaches to streams. But the villagers claimed that crops in around 6,000 acres were damaged at Pendalvada village alone. The total extent of crop damage in the mandal was around 40,000 acres, the sources say.

At this rate, the total area of crop damage in the district has been estimated at 2 lakh acres and the total loss was estimated at Rs 200 cr.

Farmers of the district urge the officials to provide compensation to all the farmers in the flood affected areas whose crops were damaged in the rains.
