oldHyderabad: A three-year-old girl came under the wheels of a school bus which was just boarded by her sister in the city on Thursday morning. The incident took place near Gokul Flats in Miyapur. K Nageshwar Rao and his wife Kondamma had two daughters three-year-old Gayatri, and Urmila, a first standard student of Cary Woods Elementary School located in IX Phase in KPHB. As Kondamma took Urmila to the school bus, Gayatri followed her. While her mother was helping her sister board the bus, Gayatri moved to the front side of the bus. Unaware that the little one was one standing in front of the bus, the driver started the bus after Urmila got on the bus. In a split second, Gayatri was crushed by a front wheel, resulting in her instantaneous death. Shocked by the incident, the driver left the vehicle and fled the scene. Kondamma collapsed at the ghastly sight and the local residents rushed to her aid and soon called in police. Miyapur police rushed to the spot and shifted the bus to police station, but not before facing vociferous protests by the people who demanded that it not be moved until the driver was arrested. Even as a case was being registered, it was learnt, the school management allegedly tried to negotiate with the victim's family and offered a compensation of Rs 90,000. Nageshwar Rao and his wife Kondamma hail from Puttasiri village in Cheemakurthi mandal in Prakasam district. Rao works as a watchman in a private company, while his wife is a homemaker.
