shankar rao wifeFormer minister and Secunderabad Cantonment MLA, P ShankarRao and his wife Viswashanti, accused of harassing their estranged daughter-in-law, Vamsipriya, surrendered to the CCS police on Wednesday. They have already obtained an anticipatory bail as the latter had approached the High Court by filing a writ petition seeking the arrest of her husband Shashank and sister-in-law, Susmita along with the couple.

They were accused of treating her in an inhuman way. She charged the police also with inaction. Earlier, a criminal court directed the accused legislator, his wife, daughter and son to surrender before the police and surrender the passports to avail bail.

High Court responds

Meanwhile, Justice Naushad Ali of the AP High Court on Wednesday ordered notice in the writ petition filed by Vamsipriya. The petitioner in her affidavit before the High court alleged that though she had lodged a complaint against Dr Shankar Rao and other members of the family, the police did not take any action.

She complained that though she had lodged a complaint with the Women Protection Cell, the police were stone-walling her complaint. She also pointed out that her marriage with the son of the former Minister was smooth till her sister-in-law arrived in India from London.
