Three engineering students and a doctor lost their lives after a car went out of control and mowed down four students waiting at a bus stop here on Thursday. While, five others sustained injuries in the incident that occurred at Ramavarappadu on the Chennai-Kolkata national highway. Two students of SRK College of Engineering and Technology, T Jyothirmayee (22), J Chandu Sri (21) and P Sindhuja (21) of Vijaya Engineering College along with Dr B Maruthi Suresh (30), Post Graduation student of Pinnamaneni Siddhartha Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Foundation died in the car accident. The students were waiting at the bus stop near Ramvarappadu to return home from their respective colleges when the car rammed into the bus stop. Rash and negligent driving was cited as the cause of the accident.
The victims of the car accident were brought to a private hospital for medical aid.
One girl was brought dead while the other two girls died after they were admitted into the hospital. The post graduate student, Dr Maruthi Suresh, too died a little later. Four of the injured were admitted into Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital and one was shifted to an orthopedic hospital, DCP M Ravi Prakash said. The driver was taken into custody.
Bodies were sent to the government hospital for autopsy and a case was registered by the Machavaram police.
