AP grandly celebrates Kartika Pournami, On the eve of Kartika Pournami , an auspicious and favorite day of lord Shiva, according to Hindu Mythology, the entire state has been seen in religious fervor and gaiety as the devotees visited the temples of Lord Shiva on Sunday.

On this auspicious day, almost all temples of the lord Shiva across the state were found overcrowded with devotees since early hours on Sunday. People believe that all their desires will be fulfilled by offering prayers to Shiva with purity of mind, on this day. It is a custom to take sacred baths in the ponds near to the temples on this day.
It is more common that the river surrounded areas in the state celebrate this temple more grandly. The women lit the lamps as an offering to Lord Siva. At many places in the temples of lord Shiva, and Rudraabhishekhams have been done to invoke lord Siva.
At many such places which have the historic prominence like Vemulawada temple, Mallikarjuna Swamy temple(Srisailam), kotilingeshwara temple in rajahmundry,Vayulingeswara temple(Srikalahasti), Kapileswara swamy temple (Tirupati) and Kanaka Durga Temple at Indrakeeladri in Vijayawada, a heavy crowd of devotees was seen since Sunday morning.
It is a cutom to celebrate Kartika Pournima on the full moon day of Kartikamasa in Hindu calendar. According to Hindu mythology, Pournami is considered as the most auspicious day to worship lord Shiva; So, the devotees seek His blessings on this day for their well-being.
