Kandukur (Prakasam dist): State CPI secretary K Narayana on Monday threatened to launch a non-political agitation to press the demand for construction of a port at Ramayapatnam, in Ulavapadu mandal, of the district.

He told press persons after going round the Ramayapatnam coast that a letter had been sent to the Group of Ministers (GoM) on Telangana to render justice to the Seemandhra region by taking up the port at Ramayapatnam, instead of at Duggarajupatnam, which has been permitted by the Union Government. The letter sought jobs for local residents and rehabilitation of the affected people before taking up the port work.

Telugu Rythu president Karanam Balaramakrishna Murthy, former Kandukur MLA Divi Siravam, CPI district secretary Katragadda Aruna, BJP district president Narasimha Rao and social activist Kancharla Ramayya accompanied Narayana. The leaders sought the resident’s opinion on the port.
