Hyderabad: Several discrepancies were reported in the voters’ lists of 24 Assembly constituencies under the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

The residents of Kukatpally and some other areas, most of them from Seemandhra districts, agitated on Friday over the missing of their names in the list, alleging that it was a deliberate attempt to deny them an opportunity to vote in the wake of decision to bifurcate the State.

It was reportedly found that the names of nearly 88,000 voters in Kukatpally and 22,000 in other constituencies have been missing. The voters have protested in Ranga Reddy District Collectorate for over an hour on the issue and raised slogans against the government.

Acting swiftly over the complaint, the Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwar Lal ordered high-level enquiry into the missing episode and directed Deputy Collectors to probe into the matter and come up with a report recommending corrective steps if found true.

“We will figure out the discrepancy and remove the bogus, duplicate voters. Most importantly we will ensure that valid voters get the voters card. And, whoever is found guilty we will initiate against them,” Bhanwar Lal told media.

Those who do not have voter card till now can apply for it online or go to regional election poll booth, municipal offices to get the procedure of voters’ ID card before December 17, he added.

This time, the new applicants will get a smart colourful voter ID cards, informed the CEO. In order to weed out duplicate voters, and enter new voters, door-to-door, verification was carried out by Booth Level Officer. As part of the special summary revision of photo electoral roll, the process will be continued till December 17.

The CEO also called upon the political parties to submit their claims and objection in this period over the voters ID discrepancy and help in enrollment of genuine voters and weeding of bogus voters. In 2014 electoral roll lists, names of over 1.5 lakh duplicate voters were removed in GHMC limits.
